· The sol–gel synthesis and characterization of mullite precursor derived from rice husk silica and aluminum nitrate hydrate [(Al(NO 3) 3 ·9H 2 O] has been investigated by Sembiring et al. . FTIR results showed the presence of Si O Si, Al O Al, and Si O Al functional groups, which were associated with mullite, corundum, quartz, and cristobalite, as verified by XRD analysis.
Silica dust is made up of small particles that become airborne during various work activities including cutting, drilling, chipping, sanding, or grinding materials that contain crystalline silica. These materials can include sand, concrete, brick, block, stone, and mortar.

Silica-coated titania (TiO2) and zirconia (ZrO2) colloids were synthesized in two sizes to provide easily traced mineral colloids for subsurface transport experiments. Electrophoretic mobility measurements showed that coating with silica imparted surface properties similar to pure silica to the titania and zirconia colloids. Measurements of steady electrophoretic mobility and size (by dynamic ...

The characterization studies confirmed that all particles were in the nanoscale range with spherical zirconia and silica particles embedded in the voids between rod-shaped HA crystallites. The nano particles were evenly and homogenously dispersed throughout the sample with high density patterns visible for zirconia, calcium and phosphorus.
